Grab Your Pickax: Using Mineral Salt Deodorant

Deodorant that looks like you’ve taken your pickax to the mines and discovered a giant crystal is something to raise your eyebrows about. I have tried various natural and organic deodorants over the years, and I always come back to the deodorants with antiperspirant power. I was smelling powder fresh, avoiding my thoughts of chemicals, and ignoring the weird texture of the skin under my arms until a few weeks ago. A friend gave me a new crystal deodorant made solely of potassium mineral salt.

When she handed me a crystal, I thought it was a practical joke, but my friend explained that this deodorant could be the answer to getting rid of the weird texture antiperspirants had left on my skin.

After Using Mineral Salt Deodorant

I have been using this deodorant for over two weeks now, twice a day. The texture that was under my arms and on the sides of my breasts is gone! My skin feels smooth and, well, normal.

The downside to this deodorant is that it does not stop you from sweating. I’ll be clear: I have been sweating. However, sweat is the result of your body regulating its temperature, so why would you want to stop that? The potassium mineral salt does diminish the scent of sweat, helping to prevent odor naturally. If you use this deodorant, you will sweat because it is not an antiperspirant and does not contain any chemicals.

Avoid Chemicals

I like this deodorant because it not only makes me feel like I’m in a sci-fi movie but it also consists of only one ingredient: mineral salt. That means that I can avoid potentially harmful (and potentially cancerous) chemicals like parabens, aluminum, phthalates, and triclosan.

You can read more about the possible harms chemicals in deodorants¬†and antiperspirants in our post “Your Deodorant May Be the Pits.”

Furthermore, this deodorant doesn’t have a strong fragrance made of ingredients that aren’t listed on the label. Some of my past deodorants have irritated and even burned my sensitive skin, but this deodorant does not–as long as you don’t nick yourself with a razor; it is salt, after all.

To use crystal salt deodorant, all you have to do is wet it and rub it under your arms. Once your armpits are dry, you are good to through the rest of your day.

My salt deodorant is from Crystal, but there are other brands that sell this product. I’ve decided to stick with my mineral salt deodorant because I want to avoid the chemicals found in deodorants. Our deodorants and other beauty products shouldn’t reek of harmful chemicals. They shouldn’t stink, and neither should we. Mineral salt deodorants are there so we don’t have to.
